A blog (a truncation of the expression "weblog") is a discussion or informational website
published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal
diary-style text entries ("posts").[1]
A blog is an open access website which can be entered easily even without
students have an email. It is one of the technologies that can be used in or
outside the class by teachers and students. A blog has one of the interesting
ways to make students interested in learning English. The features of a blog can
help to make students think more seriously about learning.
One of the
first features is comment links. A blog has the comment links which can help
whether when teachers give students some tasks to do or teachers can give
comments to correct if there is an error, for example in writing lesson
teachers can give students to write something as a task then teachers can give
the deadline to collect it. After the time is up teachers can give comment on
students’ result/task. Or in reverse, teachers can upload some story/text to
give to students as an example before doing the task.
The second
feature is audio, video, or picture. In a blog, teachers can upload a video,
audio or picture and turned it into a learning lesson for a classroom. For
example in listening class, teachers can upload an audio to blog and make
students listened to it, then let students answer the blanks or repeat the
story by themselves. In a speaking class, teachers can put pictures on the blog
and let students explain by themselves what the pictures are about or maybe a
well-known story and let them try to describe by themselves.
The third
feature links. Whenever teachers give students a task, it can be in the class
or outside the class. But when outside the class, teachers can use a blog as an
alternative way to publish assignments. Usually, teachers post to blog what are
the assignments then ask students to upload what they have done could be in
video or audio, and it can be uploaded into a blog.
The use of
blog has many advantages for teachers to teach. A blog can be used to share
opinions, ideas, or questions for students who have not understand yet about
the material. By choosing a blog, teachers can publish anything for any
particular subjects and can assign tasks to students. The assignments can be
done using blogs by giving them feedback also. Teachers can also be able to
monitor, observe, and identify how well students learn and understand the
lesson through using a blog. The disadvantage is that using blog could be hard
to control students, so teachers need to be more pay attention in giving the
material using blog thoroughly.
